It turns out that there wasn’t any marijuana in it, it was just an insanely good brownie.
So, since first posts are always the hardest and basically impossible to write, I decided to add Leslie Knope to mine since she seems to make just about everything better. If you don’t know her, then you gotta check out Parks and Recreation right now. It’s the best comedy series right now (the writing is just fantastic), with some of the most lovable characters ever. And Leslie could be voted as the most lovable (lovableest!) person there because she’s so hard not to like. Seriously, I actually tried one evening to stop liking her so much and I ended up with a terrible headache and this strange craving for watermellons. Then the following day, I stopped fighting it and realized I’m already a sucker for her so might as well continue.
My love of Leslie has its origins in the very first episode when she told the camera in a serene voice: “These people are members of the community that care about where they live. So what I hear when I’m being yelled at is people caring … loudly at me.”…and then proceeded to end the episode by singing Lady Marmalade, making it sound like a Disney song. From thereon, I knew she wouldn’t disappoint, I mean she just continued being a jumping little ray of feminism. Her care and consideration for all the ladies out there and her relentless belief in women as role models made me want to bearhug her and I don’t usually bearhug gorgeous blondes that have Justin Theroux for a boyfriend, or any government officials.
But she is worth all the bearhugs in the world for being so confident and so hardworking (and for eating so much whipped cream!)
On a related note, I keep a picture of Emily Dickinson on my desk at home (actually printed the picture, cut it in a nice shape and framed it -sort of- though it looks kind of messy), so when I saw Leslie’s office, with all those pictures of female politicians, I just had to shout ‘I love great women too!’, which made my mom look funny at me for a moment or two.
So that’s my first post, really. It’s short and it’s about a fictional woman that I am in love with - yeah, what was I going to write about so late in the night? My TV obsession sounds reasonable, I mean I’m sure many people out there are infatuated with some nonexistent characters to the point where they talk to the screen during episodes (looks around hopefully).
Anyways, I will keep writing about her in other posts, because Amy Poehler is stuck on my eyelids.
P.S. Awesome last name Leslie has, right? And if you ask someone and they say ‘nope’ you can go like ‘Yeah, did I stutter?’
